Coneflower, Echinacea
Coneflowers are a hardy perennial in zones 5 through 8. They grow approximately 1 to 3 feet tall. The perfect spot for these beauties is in the full direct sun. They love the heat and humidity of summer. Deer-resistant and drought-tolerant, they make a tremendous perennial addition to the garden. Low maintenance plant and need to remember. Flower seeds may bloom in the first season; however, they can take two seasons to mature. Coneflowers do not require stratification to germinate; however, they enjoy the cold and are healthier when this is complete. The perfect fall planting seed, plant to overwinter outdoors or store in the fridge until spring planting time.
